Young Guns: Nathan Preston

Princeton Posse goalie Nathan Preston is this week’s Young Guns selection.

After allowing the opening goal to the Grand Forks Border Bruins in the first period, he finished with 29 saves for a 3-1 win. It’s the second victory for the Penticton native.

Preston, 17, had a .967 save percentage with a 1.00 goals against average and his Head Coach Mark Readman liked the way he played.

“I thought he was steady the whole way through and was tracking pucks really well,” said Readman. “He was being aggressive, playing at the top of his crease and found second chances. It was really hot out on Saturday and the pucks were bouncy, coming from directions they don’t normally come from.”

At 6-3, Readman said Preston takes up a lot of the net and his best attribute is his zone awareness.

“He is rarely behind the play and is calm and collected,” added Readman. “He is giving our team a vote of confidence back there. That lets you play more freely, play your game with more intuition.”

Preston is 2-1 with a .900 SP and a 3.00 GAA.
