Posse’s Horiachka joins mates at ACHA Drury University

Princeton Posse captain Tyson Horiachka has committed to play for the Drury University Panthers in the American Collegiate Hockey Association this fall.

The Sherwood Park, Alta., native completed his third and final season with the Posse putting up 49 points in 40 KIJHL regular season games. He added another five points in 11 Teck Cup playoff games this season. Horiachka is excited to join the Panthers and had his heart set on the program for a while as former teammates Lucas Sadownyk and Anmol Garcha are on the team, as well as 11 other KIJHL alum.

That was my goal from the start of the year, so it’s good to be able to get that done,” said Horiachka. “Coach Jeremy Law seems like a great coach with a lot to offer, so that intrigued me, and then the living situation, the schooling and overall it seems like the best path for me.”

This past season he became a better off-ice leader and improved his offensive abilities.

“I took a big step as a relied upon scorer and I’ve always been a good two-way player, but this year I was able to capitalize more on my chances and contribute a little more offensively,” he said.

Horiachka credited his three seasons with the Posse organization for earning this opportunity, starting with his first coach Mark Readman, then Torrin White. Horiachka said both allowed him to grow as a player and person and the organization helped him mature.

White said the person Horiachka is, is really impressive. Even with a strong foundation, White saw growth in Horiachka.

“He did a really good job of taking ownership of things as the season went on,” said White. “That was the biggest thing I saw.”
